Facebook Raises Awareness for Worthy Cause
Late last week female facebook users received an inbox message that read, “We are playing a game…. silly but fun; write the color of your bra as your status and nothing else. Copy and paste and send it to all your female friends…. no males…. This will be fun to see how it spreads and we are leaving males wondering why all the females have just a color in their status…. Let’s have fun…. BE BREAST CANCER AWARE” or something along those lines. By Friday, almost all the colors of the rainbow were posted on Facebook.
If you male facebook users and some female users are still in the dark, these random color status updates were an effort to raise breast cancer awareness. The question is, “Was this legitimate or just a random chain letter?”
When asked if the Susan B. Komen for the Cure organization was responsible for this, Andrea Rader, a spokesperson for the group said it was not their idea but it was “a terrific tool for raising awareness.” Rader commented, “We just hope that people act on it. Get educated; get a mammogram.” Rader encouraged people to become more aware and visit the Susan B. Komen Web site for more information on ways to raise awareness.
Facebook’s Malorie Lurich said that hundreds, maybe even thousands, of people have been posting their color status on the Susan B. Komen and Breast Cancer Awareness Facebook pages.
Breast Cancer is a disease that affects 200,000 people each year and different breast cancer organizations are happy that awareness is being raised. It is a good idea to raise awarness on a site that so many people use. Kids need to be educated because breast cancer can affect anyone, no matter what age or gender.
There has been some negative feedback with the status updates though. Some people are wondering how putting your personal information on a status update can really raise awareness about breast cancer. A lot of blogs have been bashing the idea because it seems unconventional to reveal your unmentionables on the World Wide Web. Have you been on facebook lately? A lot of people still put colors as their status updates. It wasn’t just a one day thing for most people. As Andrea Rader said, “Hopefully it will cause people to research breast cancer and how to prevent it or how to donate.”

just saying
write is mispelled in the first sentence and 200,00 should have another zero at the end, but good so far
okay
I like the article, it has good flow, tells you the inforemation without being real wordy, the only thing that I noticed while reading it was that you used teh word education alot. Thy to not use any word besides like is and, and word like that more than three or four times unless it is absolutely nessisary.
Facebook Breast article
