Famous People Contribute to Haitian Relief

The devastating earthquake in Haiti on January 12, 2010, really hit home with some people, especially famous people. Celebrities and various bands have contributed large amounts of money and for some even their time to bring the people of Haiti back to their feet.

Sandra Bullock, along with George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, donated $1 million; Gisele Bundchen donated $1.5 million while Madonna donated $250,000. Oprah Winfrey, Paris Hilton, and Ben Stiller are among celebrities that also donated. Many celebrities such as Lindsay Lohan, Adam Lambert, and Ryan Leslie are tweeting about contributing to the Haitian relief.

Wyclef Jean, a singer whose native land is Haiti, arrived in Haiti to help the relief and see the devastation in his home country.

“It seems like across the wide spectrum of artists and people in the music industry and the movie industry and everything else, people are kind of joining together to help in whatever manner they can,” said Blink-182 bassist and vocalist Mark Hoppus to the Associated Press.

It’s not only celebrities donating money but celebrities asking for money in a way that would benefit you and the people of Haiti. Blink-182 is running a sale on a special made Haitian relief t-shirt that has the signature Blink-182 bunny holding a Haitian flag. It is only $15 and 100% of the proceeds go to Red Cross. They have already raised more than $20k for Haiti.

George Clooney is working on running and hosting a ”Hope for Haiti” telethon that will air on MTV. Many stars are said to be making appearances on the telethon and many bands and musicians are said to be performing. Donations will go to Oxfam America, Partners in Health, Red Cross, UNICEF, and the Yele Haiti foundation.
