Administrations Stand on Haiti
You have probably heard a lot about the earthquake in Haiti that has devastated the entire country. Of all of the countries to be devastated, Mother Nature picked the poorest country in the entire world, “It can’t get worse, right?” Well that my fellow students is up to you. You may be wondering what this has to do with you as an individual, as a Christian, and to be relevant as a student of a Catholic School. Wanting to answer these questions, I went to the administration to find out the school’s official position, and here are the facts on where we stand.
Before the earthquake ever struck, Father Etheredge had been getting information and had made the decision that the school should take part in helping the people of Haiti through an organization called Hope for Haitians. After the earthquake, all funds going into this organization have been funneling to Food for the Poor, which is another group by which all donations are being directed directly to the people of Haiti. Over the past few years, donations from certain dioceses have raised enough funds to build Rockford Friendship Village, and more like it are being built. In each village are approximately fifty 12 ft x 15 ft homes. This project is also one the school will become part of in the near future. As an entire school, we are doing certain things such as the out of uniform day January 22nd, and different clubs and classes are doing more individual projects to help raise awareness and funds to help the people of Haiti.
